Female referees 16 Mar 2007
There’s a shortage of football referees across the country at all levels. Fewer and fewer men are prepared to give up their time to run up and down muddy municipal playing fields while 22 red-faced strangers shout and swear at them. Meanwhile, in the Premiership, footballers who earn millions of pounds a year seem to regard abusing the ref as one of the perks.

So what’s the answer? Could it be women referees? Many night clubs now employ women bouncers, because customers are less confrontational with them. So, might women refs take some of the violence out of football?

We sent special guest presenter, Andy Hamilton into aÌýdressing room full of sweaty men to try and find the answer.
