Mirabel Topham
The woman who ran The Grand National.

Mirabel Topham was in charge of the world’s greatest horse race for nearly forty years from 1935. She had a stern reputation and accused many of her critics of taking a dislike to her because she was a woman. She also weathered a difficult marriage to a husband who was a drunk and a womaniser and who was even prosecuted for indecent exposure. Jenni is joined by Joan RimmerÌýwho knew Mirabel Topham and has written a biography of her life.
