Helen Newlove 28Nov 2008
Garry Newlove’s widow talks about the night he was killed outside their Warrington home.

On the 10th of August last year, Garry Newlove confronted a group of youths who were vandalising his wife’s car outside their Warrington home. The gang, who had been drinking for many hours, launched a ferocious attack on Garry whodied two days later. In February this year, three youths were sentenced to life for his murder and Helen Newlove is now demanding that “life should mean life”. In the last twelve months she has made calls for the parents of child offenders to be forced to do community service alongside their offspring and she has had meetings with both David Cameron and Jack Straw to demand the return of the death penalty. Helen Newlove joins Jenni to talk about the night her husband was killed and about Newlove Warrington, a campaign that aims to provide opportunities for all members of the community to bridge the gap between generations.
