Expert Witnesses in Child Protection Cases 21 Jan 2008
Husband of jailed childminder Keran Henderon is campaigning for her release. Where now for expert witness evidence?

Last November, childminder Keran Henderson was jailed for three years for the manslaughter of baby Maeve Sheppard on a majority verdict. Maeve was taken, unconscious, to hospital in 2005 from Keran's home, where she was being looked after. The court heard from experts who said injuries were caused by the baby's neck being violently snapped back and forth. However, two jurors have subsequently expressed their discomfort with the outcome of the case, and Iain Henderson, Keran’s husband, is campaigning for her release. He joins Jane, along with Dr Heather Payne a consultant paediatrician who upholds the use of expert witnesses in cases where the safety of children is at stake.
