The Blue Peter all-action girl on her latest achievement
Helen Skelton became the 33rd Blue Peter presenter in 2008 and since her arrival hasÌýcompleted the Namibia Ultra Marathon, the London Marathon and come 6th in the UK Women's Downhill Skateboarding Championships. In aid of this years Sport Relief, Helen aimed to complete a 2,010 mile solo kayak journey down the length of the Amazon River, a feat she achieved on 28th February and in the process setting two Guinness World Records for ‘longest solo journey by kayak’ and the ‘longest distance in a kayak in 24 hours by a woman’. After six weeks and having faced heat exhaustion, sea sickness, aching limbs, a sunken support boat and a splintered kayak, not to mention an impromptu tarantula passenger, Helen is now back in Britain and joins Jane to discuss her achievement which is one of the toughest physical challenges ever undertaken for Sport Relief.
Helen’s adventure will be shown in two Blue Peter special episodes, on 16th and 17th March, in the lead up to the Sport Relief Weekend (Friday 19th to Sunday 21st March).
