Beth Chatto, photograhed by Caroline Hughes
Celebrating a life's work in gardening

Another chance to hear our special programme on one of the most influential living gardeners in Britain, Beth Chatto.Ìý Best known for her pioneering, ecological approach to gardening,Ìýher philosophy was developed in the 1960’s but seems even more relevant to gardeners today given concern about climate change.Ìý In August Martha Kearney met Beth Chatto at her gardens in Elmstead Market, Essex to hear how she created one of Britain’s best-loved gardens from a patch of wasteland at the back of her husband’s fruit farm. Martha talks to her about her influences and how her passion for plants and garden design have turned her into such an inspirational figure in the gardening world.
Beth Chatto's work is currently the subject of a retrospective exhibition at the Garden Museum in London.Ìý
