Living at the Greenham Common Women’s Peace Camp.
On August 27 1981 a group of 36 women, four men and several children set out to walk to Berkshire from Cardiff to protest about the imminent arrival of 96 American cruise missiles. In the years that followed thousands of women would arrive at the Greenham Common Women’s Peace Camp to protest, lend their support and, for some, to set up home. A new archaeological survey has catalogued more than 600 artefacts in an attempt to understand what life was like for those who lived at the camp. Jenni is joined by Dr Yvonne Mitchell, an archaeologist involved in the project, and Dr Rebecca Johnson, who lived for five years at the peace camps, to discuss solidarity, clashes with the police and the legacy of Greenham Common.
