John Coltrane Tribute to John Coltrane

It is 35 years since his death but John Coltrane remains one of the late great jazz legends of the twentieth century. To mark his remarkable contribution to the world of jazz, British musician Courtney Pine is dedicating a tribute set at the London Jazz Festival on 22 November. Unlike the modern era of 'reality pop' jazz seems to have lost some of it's commercial appeal. However it's roots remain strong and some elements are now transferring across to other areas of music not traditionally associated with 'jazz'.

In a full length interview Courtney Pine talks about the evolution of jazz and why John Coltrane has been such an important figure in his life.

Miles Davis, John Coltrane and Ella Fitzgerald were all stars of the golden era of jazz. However their influence remains strong in todays contemporary recordings.

Ravi Coltrane is the son of John Coltrane. He believes the legends of the 50's and 60's were the pioneers of modern day jazz - and unlike musicians of today, they were much more forward looking....
