Daddy long legs spider
Dylan Winter meetsÌýPholcus phalangioides
The Daddy Long Legs Spider

Pholcus phalangioides used to be confined largely to cellars in the UK. In the age of central heating it has risen up to its favoured habitat of kitchen ceilings where it quickly wipes out competing spiders as well us any unfortunate insects in the neighbourhood. Anecdotal evidence suggests that it is moving northwards with increasingly large populations in the Midlands and occasional sightings in northern England and Scotland. We’d love to find the most northerly Shared Earth Pholcus. Please e-mail us with your sightings.

City Parks and Gardens

Manchester City Council is adapting its park planting strategies in an effort to second-guess the effects of global warming. The fear is that hot summers and wet winters could devastate existing urban trees and shrubs.
