A couple of the world's largest slug, the 'Ash-Black'.
Lionel Kelleway is search of the rare Beefly on the Isle of Man.

The World's Largest Slug

Presenter Lionel Kelleway begins the new five part series in search of a large slimy creature. Found only in one or two ancient wooded clefts in Dartmoor is the world’s largest ground slug, the “Ash-Black” slug.

This leviathan is known to reach up to a length of 30 centimetres. It lurks under dead trees during the day, but at night slips obsequiously into the dark looking for vegetation of all kinds to eat.

These magnificent animals have the capacity to be a male, a female or both at the same time: they can even mate with themselves - which begs the question, why bother with a mate at all?
