The roadside entrance to a cave that houses the British Cave Spider on the Isle of Man.
The roadside entrance to a cave that houses the British Cave Spider of the Isle of Man.

The Natural History of the TT Race.

In the first of four special programmes from the Isle of Man, Lionel Kelleway looks at the natural history that surrounds the famous formula one super bike race course - the Isle of Man TT.

Lionel is guided by two intrepid race and wildlife enthusiasts. Rather than analysing horse-power, traction and rate of braking to achieve the infamous average speed of 130mph around the 37 mile course, Lionel moves at a gentler pace and visits the road-side wildlife hotspots that the riders miss.

On route, Lionel encounters fields of orchids, rare cave spiders, sod banks and the joy of seven kingdoms.
