Tennis and Turf Technology
This years Wimbledon championships are now well underway, with the help of many hundreds of staff tending the courts over the nextÌýtwo weeks.
Amongst them, a man with possibly the strangest job at the tournament -Ìýto count the grass. Geoff Watts visits Centre Court to meet Dr Andy Newall, a grass technologist who is ensuring that players get the optimum
bounce from the immaculate turf at the All England Tennis Club.
Gene Flow
Geoff talks to Professor Phil Dale at the University of Southampton about a project that has been monitoring how genes move between species of plants and microbes, and what effect this might have on the environment, and concerns over genetically modified crops.
China Lunar Programme
Virginia Phillips reports from Beijing on the Chinese Lunar mission. They plan to send a satellite to the moon to map its poles and search for the possibility of water.
The idea has generated huge public support in China, and some experts believe that the ultimate goal is to see a Chinese national set foot on the moon.
The Russians and US have been there before, so what is the motivation behind these plans, is it purely political or is there new scientific research to be done?
New Antarctic Vehicle
Geoff Watts talks to the designer of a new vehicle, designed specifically to tackle the extreme conditions found in Antarctica.
James Moon has worked in conjunction with the British Antarctic Survey, to come up with a prototype that could revolutionise the way scientists are able to move around the harsh environment and conduct their experiments.
Geoff visits the final year show at the Royal College of Art where a model is on display.
