GRID LOCK?

Britain has been set stretching t argets to generate 15% of our energy form renewable sources by 2020, but has the Government put the right policy in place to deliver?

In Europe only Luxembourg and Malta currently have a worse record at increasing the percentage of energy that comes from renewable sources. It’s a fact that Catherine Mitchell, Professor of Energy at Exeter University, finds depressing. She tells Costing The Earth that even though Britain has had a renewable energy policy in Britain since 1990, “in that time we have only increased our renewable energy by about 1%."

So where does the problem lie?

Tom Heaps investigates.
