Living Longer Better

The number of people 75 years old and over will increase by over 60% in the next 20 years. We are living longer. But how can we live longer better?

In this special edition of All in the Mind, Raj Persaud visits theÌý at the University of Newcastle upon Tyne to find out about their latest research and how will it affect the lives of elderly people today and in the future.

Raj Persaud talks to Professor , founder of the Institute, about its history; Gerontologist ProfessorÌý explains the demography of ageing and why there is a need for ageing research;Ìý, a research nurse, discusses the initial findings of the and introduces Raj to some of the 85 year olds who took part; , Professor of Old Age Psychiatry; explains his work on the pathology of depression in older people; and finally Raj Persaud visits theÌý and meets the unit head, Professor , and some of the elderly people whose lives have been turned around by treatment which has helped prevent their dizziness, blackout and falls.
