Underpants Beer

Bill Brittain recollects...

"Like many students, in order to eke the maximum amount of beer from our grant money, we used to make home brew."

"One Saturday while forty pints of Old Peculiar bubbled in a bucket in the kitchen, I carelessly left a pair of underpants in the bathroom, after taking a shower. A few days later they were found floating in the fermentation bin."

"Gary gingerly removed the offending item with the end of a wooden spoon and after careful examination it was established they belonged to me. There were then tricky decisions to be made: the risk of disease needing to be weighed against the sacrifice of forty pints."

"Gary and Kev concluded that as I bathed more often than the average male undergrad the risk of fatal contamination was slim and the beer was deemed safe for consumption."
