Sloth

For Tom Bussman, the weekend is the only chance he gets to indulge in one or other of the seven deadly sins. He argued that if God had chosen not to rest on the Seventh day, then the world would be a much better place , free from "all the inexplicable irritations like mosquitos and management consultants".

Tom's slothfulness extends to his footwear. The British affection for dogs rules out going barefoot. Happily Tom has found the perfect shoe.

"It's called a loafer. I find that if you buy a pair a couple of sizes too big, you can with a little practice, enter and leave them without changing step. Another tip. It also helps conserve vital energy if you leave them pointing the way you wish to go next, rather like reversing a car into a parking slot."

Somewhat surprisingly, Tom admits to being a member of a health club. However, his efforts aren't especially strenuous.

"Later today, I'll be practising my post-iceberg collision survival techniques in the club pool. This consists of elbowing aside older members and any children, entering the water, and floating motionless, occasionally blowing my trusty nickel-plated Acme Thunderer pea-whistle."
