A Refreshing Break

Jenny, aged 73, rang Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ Truths about her holidays, and unbeknownst to family and friends, the relationship she has developed with her driver-courier ...

Jenny is now a widow. When her husband died, she sold their apartment in Spain and decided to take frequent shorter breaks in Britain, through a local coach company. The people she met on these trips were varied, and friendly. One of the driver-couriers particularly impressed her. Jenny explains,"He was so capable, kind efficient and friendly. I decided, I would find holidays on which he was to be. It involved a great deal of detective work and subterfuge - the companies don't give out the information as to who is be in charge of which holiday."

The driver-courier was unaware of Jenny's admiration. It was not unusual for people to re-appear on these trips; there were regulars on the holidays. Gradually, Jenny and the driver-courier got to know each other, "I enjoy a walk after the evening meal at the hotel - it's good for the soul and digestion. It turned out so did he. Often we used to bump into each other. After about 3 of these expeditions we decided to join forces and go for a walk in the evening. We can talk together, we're totally different we seem to have a lot in common."

When the next holiday came round, the two discreetly arranged to meet to go walking in the evenings. No-one else on the tour was aware of their friendship. This time, however, the relationship developed further. Jenny: "We arranged to meet outside the environs of the hotel, when we got back, we wanted a cup of coffee. Nowhere was open, so I said 'Come up to my room and I'll make a cup of coffee. The next time, he said you'd better come to my room for a cup of coffee. And one thing led very much to the other, ultimately."

There is no question of Jenny and her companion behaving as a couple on these breaks. "This is purely in the evenings for a walk and the follow on. No one's ever guessed, except one person did say, 'Ah, I rather suspect there might be something going on between you two...' Everybody laughed and that was the end of that. Perhaps they'd intercepted a glance over breakfast ..."
