Fair or Unfair?

How much rent should you charge an adult offspring returning home to live? These are some of the thoughts of Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ Truths listeners:

"When our son was 16 he decided to leave school and get a job - we said OK but he'd have to pay us. He asked his mate's Mum if he could lodge with her. We said we'd charge him Β£15, she said she'd do it for Β£10. So he left home." ...Rose.

"When I left school 30 years ago my mother demanded 50% of our take-home pay and of course we railed against it, but when we came to leave home ourselves, we found that she had invested some of the money we'd given her each week and we were presented with a nice little nest egg with which to start our own homes." ...Sheila.

"My Mum always had the idea that we should pay a third of whatever we earned towards our keep whether we were working or not." ...Ros.

"My husband and I worked out that the best idea would be to charge them a quarter of whatever they earned so that they'd get an idea of the cost of living was at the time." ...Diane.
