Our Mother

Listen to the item

Mary Smith, was brought up in England, but was born on the island of Jersey during World War II. She was always led to believe that her dad had died when she was a tiny baby. Mary's mother struggled to bring up her little daughter and her elder brother Peter alone. Mary always thought it was strange that there were no photographs of her father. It was not until she was 46, that she visited Jersey and found out the truth.

Mary came into our Exeter studio with her younger brother MauriceΒ to tell David about a chance meeting with the woman who spilled the beans.Β
