Desert Rescue

Listen to the item

In 1992 Tim Makins was travelling in an old Bedford army truck from London to Harare. In the middle of the Moroccan desert, miles from anywhere, the truck broke part of its back axle. Most of his companions chose to walk to the nearest road, and hitch a lift into the nearest town.

But somebody had to stay behind and guard the truck. Tim was one of four who volunteered. All went well for the first few days, but then Tim had an accident.Β Tim tells David what happened next.
