Over the past few weeks we'veÌýheardÌýabout eyewitness accounts of theÌýLewisham train disaster in December 1957 when two trains, one steam one electric, collided in dense fog. Reg and Sybil Hough's flat backed onto that section of railway line and they were the first on the scene - Sybil put through the first 999 call. They were both 27 and had been married for three years. Reg was an engineer, Sybil a hairdresser but that night both discovered they possessed physical and spiritual resources they'd never before experienced or suspected.Ìý
