FROM YOU

Do you work in an environment completely alien to your profession?

Val wrote:

My husband, Alan, is a marine biologist yet since he got his Phd at Portsmouth University, 20 odd years ago we have never lived by the sea!

He has worked in Johannesburg (which entailed a 6 hour drive to the coast with his students) and Windhoek, where his office looked out onto the Namib Desert. You can imagine how difficult it was trying to explain what a marine biologist was doing in the middle of one of the driest deserts in the world!

We are now based in the middle of a marsh in Normandy, France, and at last the beach is at the end of the road, but it just made me wonder how many other people there are who are working in an environment completely alien to their profession.
