The Stour Valley and Dedham Church
Helen Mark visits the Stour Valley on the Essex-Suffolk border, the landscape which inspired John Constable.
It’s not just rolling countryside and idyllic landscapes in the . Helen nervously explores inside a World War II pillbox on the banks of the River Stour which is being given a new purpose. She also gets cosy with Jasper, a Suffolk Punch horse, and makes friends with some large black pigs. A walking guide shows her the route Constable took to school through the village of when he was a lad – and she discovers how a community woodland is bringing the above Constable picture (Stour Valley and Dedham Church) back to real life. Helen also talks to a modern artist who paints the same landscapes Constable did 250 years ago.
