Victoria, the snake
β€œThe most beautiful silhouette in the world”, that’s how former Prime Minister, Stanley Baldwin, described the Malvern Hills.
But Helen Mark discovers there is more to the Malverns than just a silhouette as she searches forΜύ and grass snakes amidst the bracken and grass of the steep slopes.

The wet weather this summer has not only meant that snakes are basking for longer – so are more visible to walkers, but the bracken has grown to a huge height, reaching 6ft in some places. Helen finds out how theΜύare coming to terms with their comparatively new role of controlling the spread of bracken

Find out too about the right at the top of Hollybush Hill and how rabbits have played a crucial role in shaping the summit and controlling the lives of commoners and aristocrats alike.
