The Ryan
by EL-STIG

ravenA short but apposite parody of Edgar Allen Poe's epic poem "The Raven", from The Fantasy Archers topic of .

Once inside a cottage dreary, sat a vet so weak and weary
With a pot of strong black coffee he was trying to pour
While he's pouring, he's so boring, poor old Shula took to snoring
From upstairs young Daniel's roaring, "dad please go boring us no more"
"I'm not boring you" he muttered as the saintly Shula snored
"I'm not boring-speak no more"

So distinctly he was bent on, playing poker games with Kenton
That by Shula he'd been sent on a compulsive gamblers course
But it was Ryan he was greeting, at the weekly GA meeting
Chance to stop himself from cheating, at the cards or on a horse
No more betting Shula said, Coz if you're betting I'll be forced
To be getting a divorce!

But this Ryan he would work on, although Maurice was so certain
He'd be going for a Burton, if he helped him any more
Later in a bookies setting, though he wasn't there for betting
It was Ryan he was getting, on the day that Kenton saw
And what Shula's brother saw, was enough to promise war
If he went there any more

Though it wasn't Ali's preference, to be giving him a reference
He had felt a certain deference, for the story Ryan told
And he took some small enjoyment, that he'd helped him get employment
So his skills would see deployment, in a far more gainful role
And helping Ryan land this role, was just so soothing to Al's soul,
Now let's watch the plot unfold
