I was not aware of this song until after the death of John Peel. I read that Teenage Kicks was his favorite song and I found it on the online music service I subscribe to scratch my curiousity. I fell in love with the song instantly, a near-perfect 2-minute pop tune about young lust done in a great punk beat. It is now one of the tracks I listen to when I am working on my website.

well what more can i say that hasnt already been said? without a shaddow of a doubt one of the simplest yet greatest songs ever made, direct and to the point with so much optimism about it. understandable really why john peel adopted it instantly, as optimism in an ever chenign world was his view point. next time you listen to it, think of peel and of all the artists he brought to the fore.

1978.....13 years old and just about as full of it as anyone.Punk music was at it's start and I was there to soak it all up like a young soggy almost wet sponge. Tight jeans black T'shirt with "Anarchy" a few slits and pins. Greatest moments of my life.. Thought we would change the world / country / peterborough or just somthing about ourselves. It was a real time in my life and met some real dreamers, wonder where they are now. I hope there still like me looking for the ultimate nivarna...

I seen The Undertones on Top Of The Pops singing Teenage Kicks. The thing I remember about them was that they were wearing the same clothes as I was. Snorkels, cheap denims and really bad jumpers. You have to admire a band who wore their normal clothes to go on tv. As far as I know it's never been done before or since. Teenage Kicks is a great song.

I read in the paper this morning that John Peel has died and was deeply sorry, because I've been listening to his music for more than 20 years. He found new artists and sounds and inspired listeners like me. A pioneer of music has gone forever but he goes on living in my memory!

My Dad worked with John on Sounds Of The 70's and one of my earliest memories is of being at Peel Acres. I was about 4 at the time and John and Sheila had not started the family yet. John was just like an uncle, we didnt see him much but felt that he was part of us. Mum & Dad went to his birthday party a few months ago and I thought that they would become closer friends as the retirement years crept on. John you will be sadly missed and it just goes to show that you should treat every day as if its your last. All our love to Sheila and the kids, Jason, Alf, Mavis and Sam.

John would probably cringe......but its like losing a favourite Uncle. You might not agree with every choice or everything he said BUT you still felt comfortable, something perhaps he would not want you to be. But that IS MUSIC it doesn't matter what I like, he played what we ALL liked and gave EVERYONE a chance. If he thought that the early Radio 1 played some commercial crap then what of today's mundane mass production? I remember a time when the late great Peel walked past my pub one Mayday afternoon. Myself and a couple of mates were outside keeping a look out for angry hippies on a smash and bash mission, when around the corner walked John taking his normal route to work, at the same time as hundreds of hippies on bikes sped up the street protesting whatever and blocking his path. On asking John for his views on the the protest. John replied, "Bloody cyclists deserve running over" This I think was Johns dry, straight talking wit. A great man. R.I.P

I would like to take the focus away from John's involvment with punk and new wave.I was a protestant youth living in Belfast in the 70's. John introduced me to non-sectarian Irish folk, bands such as De Danaan, Boys Of the Lough, and The Cheftains. He gave me an appreciation of Irish culture and music that I wasn't getting a chance to hear. Also in recent years John played the best godamn Drum'n'Bass to be heard on radio.

The story in today's Independent summed up Peel perfectly and the comment about not interrupting records - "he would consider it a discourtesy to band and listener" should be heeded to less luminous DJ's on Radio 2.

How sorry I was to hear yesterday of John Peel's death. When someone dies that you know via film, tv, radio etc., you feel sad, but you didn't know them and that's as far as it goes, they're not your own personal friend or family. However, and I guess everybody feels this about different people, I woke up this morning and the World is a different place, as it was after the death of George Harrison. You'll be sadly missed John, though never forgotten. My deepest condolences to his wife and children.

As a teenager, I remember John Peel announcing the deaths of Ian Curtis fron Joy Division and John Lennon. It was done in such a beautifully personal yet respectful and understanding way from a guy, who in my opinion, was the greatest dj ever. It seems strangly poignant that such memories should come to mind on this occasion. I really wish his families well and want to thank them for such a wonderful man!!!

John Peel's ΒιΆΉΤΌΕΔ Truths was the thing I looked forward to most on a Saturday morning - my showers will be all the poorer for his passing. He encompassed a real sense of acceptance of everyone and their views mingled with a sense of real irony and humour.

Teenage kicks is indeeed a great song, and as with good songs it lends itself to other interpretations. I think Busted are a very talented band and i think thier version is a little more fresh and zesty than The Undertones version sounds today. There is a tendency for bands to get very "precious" about thier work, it should be remembered that imitation is the highest form of flattery. if your music influences further musicians to develop surely that is a good thing.
