Rita L’Oujdia and Salle

DJ Edu introduces Rita L’Oujdia, a Moroccan singer-songwriter using music to question her society, and Salle, a young Nigerian whose career was kickstarted by a viral video.

Rita L’Oujdia is a 22-year-old Moroccan singer-songwriter with a training in classical music and a determination to speak up for the many young Moroccans who grew up away from their home country. She’s exploring her identity through her music and questioning her society, with songs tackling misogyny and early marriage.

Also in this edition, 20-year-old Salle from Nigeria who is living a modern fairytale. She was singing in the market where she used to sell things for her mother when some passers by stopped her and commented on her voice. They were impressed and asked her if she had a manager. A video of the incident went viral, and the next thing she knew Salle was meeting the king-and-queen-maker of Afrobeats, Don Jazzy. She’s now releasing songs and planning her career in music.
