Roseline Layo and Ashta Eez

DJ Edu profiles Roseline Layo, who has taken the Ivory Coast by storm this year, and Ashta Eez, a Zimbabwean making a name for herself in Poland as well as in her native country.

Roseline Layo dropped her first single Donnez Nous un Peu in December 2021, and has taken the Ivory Coast by storm this year. Her first album, Elu de Dieu, won her a gold disc in June.

It looks like a meteoric rise, but Roseline Layo has been harbouring a dream for a while. She was learning to be a dressmaker to help support her family and decided to enter a local TV talent contest. She didn’t win, but it lit a flame inside her. Now, everywhere, Ivorians are dancing to her tunes.

Zimbabwe’s Ashta Eez started out as a dancer but was determined to get into making music. She went to Poland to study and is finding that being one of only a few African performers there is working for her. She has opened shows in Poland for big artists like Omah Lay. She’s also had a number one hit back home in Zimbabwe.
