My long-distance race to making an Oscar-nominated film

Oscar-nominated screenwriter Lesley Paterson funded her 16-year campaign to make 'All Quiet on the Western Front' by winning triathlons against impossible odds.

Lesley Paterson is an extraordinary athlete, in her time she has won five world championship triathlons but she also has another love β€” filmmaking. When she discovered that no one owned the film rights to one of her favourite books 'All Quiet on the Western Front' she bought them and set about writing the screenplay. It was a passion project that took sixteen years to come to fruition, one that was paid for by prize money from her success at off road triathlons. Through broken bones, illness and overwhelming challenges the film was made and is now nominated for nine Oscars.
