Samba Peuzzi is a rising star of the Senegalese music scene who raps in Wolof and French.
He started out as a rapper in the early 2010s, and was a finalist in Senegal’s Flow Up rap contest. He’s released plenty of music since then, including the hit single Marie & Cheikh in 2019 that received millions of views. He mines Senegal’s rich musical traditions, blending Mbalax with hip hop sounds, consciously wanting his music to sound distinctive.
In this programme he talks about the importance of having pride in your own culture. He is also aware of being a role model to youngsters from the suburbs, and shares how he himself was inspired and helped by other rappers a few steps ahead of him in the game.
