Yasmine
DJ Edu meets Yasmine, a singer representing Guinea Bissau with kizomba love songs.
Yasmine was born in Portugal, but both her parents are from Guinea Bissau. She says she grew up immersed in the culture of their motherland, including its traditional music. As she tells DJ Edu, she put her studies in midwifery on hold when her first song Apaixona became a hit. That was back in 2015. Since then it’s been relatively plain sailing. Her kizomba love songs have proved popular and given her a fan base across Portuguese-speaking Africa and its diaspora.
