Gemini Major
Malawian music producer Gemini Major, has just released his second album Island Water
Gemini Major is ambitious. The Malawian music producer and singer-songwriter has just released his second album Island Water, a reference to the islands of Lake Malawi. As he tells DJ Edu, his favourite track on the new album is Ooh La La, which features rising Nigerian singer Ayra Starr. Working with Africa’s hottest talent has been a big part of Gemini Major’s story to date. After moving to South Africa, he was signed to Cassper Nyovest’s Family Tree Record label, and he produced Nasty C’s hit single Juice Back, which launched them both. In 2015 Gemini was first nominated as producer of the year at the South African hip-hop awards along with some of the country's greats. Though he is appreciative of the love he has been given from the South African music industry and from South African fans, Gemini Major has his eye set on London:
"South Africa is just one of my stops. The journey doesn't end there. With the kind of music I'm making now, it feels like London is at the centre of it all. I'm as brave as they come and I know how hard it's going to be to achieve what I've achieved in South Africa, and for me to even let that go and say I want to be in the main frame. I see Wizkid and Burna Boy playing the O2, and I want to be in the centre of all of that."
