Asa
Nigerian star Asa discusses her new album, and plays acoustic versions of some of its tracks.
Nigerian singer songwriter Aṣa burst onto the international scene in 2007, with the release of her first album, simply entitled Aṣa. It combined catchy melodies with thought-provoking lyrics touching on power, psychology and politics in poetic ways. It went platinum, and songs such as Jailer and Fire on the Mountain became huge hits. More albums followed - Beautiful Imperfection, Bed of Stone and, in 2019, Lucid, Aṣa’s meditation on love.
Now she’s back with a brand new offering: Her fifth album, simply called V (FIVE). It includes collaborations with the Cavemen, Amaare, and Wizkid.
In this episode, Aṣa will be talking about the new album, and her musical journey to date, as well as sharing her thoughts on Afrobeats. There’s an extra treat too – she’ll be performing acoustic versions of a couple of songs exclusively for us.
