Trachoma
How one of the oldest recognised disease on earth is still a major problem
It’s a disease that was known in Biblical times and still affects many people, largely in rural parts of sub Saharan Africa. Spread by a bacterial infection it can cause pain and blindness. Khadidiatou Cisse travelled to Benin to look at how relatively simple operations are being used to restore the vision of those who may have been suffering from trachoma for years.
