Bankulli, from Nigeria is a man who has a unique place in the rise and rise of African music. He is a musical mover and shaker, having managed artists, and joined the dots in so many ways, as well as being a talented musician in his own right. He was instrumental in linking Nigerian artists in London with those in the motherland, which allowed Afrobeats to emerge as a movement and thrive, and was a key player in the launch of D’Banj’s Oliver Twist, arguably the first Afrobeats song out of Nigeria to become a major hit internationally.
More recently, Bankulli performed on two tracks on Beyonce’s Grammy-nominated album The Gift, which gave Afrobeats massive exposure worldwide, and he rubs shoulders with the likes of Kanye West and Jay-Z. Bankulli is keen to share his knowledge and success with upcoming artists, and has a keen eye for new talent, discovering none other than Teni the Entertainer. He has been working on a documentary telling the amazing story of Afrobeats, which is due to be released early in 2022.
