Tzy Panchak
Cameroonian artist Tzy Panchak tells DJ Edu about the impact armed conflict in his home town has has had on his life and music.
Tzy Panchak is a Cameroonian artist who got inspired to make music when he was at university in Calabar, Nigeria, and fell in love with the Nigerian sound. But, as he tells DJ Edu, he’s keen to be known as a Cameroonian musician and to promote other young artists from his country.
Tzy Panchak comes from the minority Anglophone region which has been devastated by war between armed separatist groups and the army since 2017. In this programme he talks movingly of the personal impact the violence has had upon him, including the massacre of school children in his home town of Kumba, and the death of his father, who was unable to get to hospital because of the insecurity. He has written songs about both of these tragedies.
