She was a refugee from Afghanistan. Now she’s running for state office in the US.

At a point of strong political division in the US, where everything from β€œmigrant caravans” to global trade is being politicised, Safiya Wazir is running for office in New Hampshire, a state that’s 94 percent white. 27 year-old Safiya says she is not interested in pursuing a career in politics, but in the short term she feels that she can make a difference on issues like education, senior care and paid family-leave.
