Weather-related disasters more frequent and costlier than 50 years ago

World Meteorological Organization says early warning systems are now saving more lives

Scientists at the UN's World Meteorological Organization say the number of weather-related disasters around the globe has increased five-fold over the past 50 years. James Douris from the WMO's Disaster Risk Reduction team explains why, despite this, far fewer people are dying due to these events, thanks to improved early warning systems.
