Germany has promised $1.34bn to Namibia, after formally acknowledging its genocide there. German colonisers killed tens of thousands of Herero and Nama people in Namibia in early 20th Century massacres, and professor Ulrike Lindner of Cologne University explains the background. Also in the programme, we have an in depth report on a water dispute between Ethiopia and its neighbours over a huge hydro-electric dam it is building on the Nile. David Shinn is former US ambassador to Ethiopia and now with the Elliott School of International Affairs at George Washington University, and discusses the best case scenario for resolving the disagreement. Professor Aris Georgakakos of Georgia Tech argues that the new dam should be positive for all the nations involved. And we get wider context from Dr Tirusw Asefa, who is a water resources engineer based in Tampa, Florida.
