RaΓΊl Castro steps down

RaΓΊl Castro has stepped down as Cuban Communist Party leader

RaΓΊl Castro says he is resigning as Cuban Communist Party leader, ending his family's six decades in power. Mr Castro, 89, told a party congress that he is handing over the leadership to a younger generation "full of passion and anti-imperialist spirit". We get analysis from the Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ's Will Grant. And thousands of people have been demonstrating in Berlin against the lifting of the city's rent cap. Germany's highest court ruled that the Berlin state government had no right to impose the cap. The State Secretary for Housing, Wenke Christoph tells us what she thinks of the court ruling. Plus, the Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ’s Elizabeth Hotson has been finding out how the public is responding to the cautious reopening of non-essential outlets in England this week. And whilst small businesses have born the brunt of the pandemic across the world, in the US, Asian-owned firms have been among the worst hit; Kai Rysdale in California from our sister programme Marketplace tells us why. Meanwhile, as vaccines and government spending rolls out across America, some economists and business leaders are predicting the world's biggest economy will grow sharply; the Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ’s Michelle Fleury takes us to Coney Island in New York where people are hoping the good times are about to return. Plus, we're joined throughout the show by Sinead Mangan, broadcaster for ABC News and host of Australia Wide. (Picture of former Cuban President Raul Castro.
