Plane engine maker Rolls Royce is to axe nearly a fifth of its workforce. The firm’s chief executive Warren East discusses the crisis that has engulfed the aviation sector. And Ben Katz, aviation and aerospace reporter for the Wall Street Journal examines the likely impact of the job losses. Also in the programme, the central bank of Venezuela has launched legal proceedings to try to force the Bank of England to release a billion dollars worth of Venezuelan gold it holds in its vaults, which is being held as a result of sanctions against the country. Guillermo Olmo is with the Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ in Venezuela and explains the background. Plus, on World Bee Day we focus on the threat to colonies in many parts of the world. Beekeeper Pam Hunter tells us there are concerns an insecticide that has been restricted in Europe to try and help bee populations may still be getting into colonies via pollen. Allison Crittenden is a policy expert at the American Farm Bureau Federation and argues that careful use of neonicotinoid pesticides will not harm bee populations. And we hear more about the debate around pesticide use and bees from Dave Goulson, professor of biology at the University of Sussex.
