Coronavirus: EU agrees $500bn stimulus package

Some member states are concerned the money is too little and too late

The European Union faces immense economic challenges as a result of the Covid-19 pandemic, with some warning its very existence is at risk. After days of marathon talks, the EU has agreed to a rescue package worth more than half a trillion dollars. But the European Central Bank is already on record as saying that one-and-a-half trillion euros are needed. So will it be enough? We ask the Rome-based economist Michele Geraci - until recently Under-Secretary for Economic Development in Italian Prime Minister Mario Conte's government.
