Travelling at over 300mph in a tube may be intriguing, but will Hyperloop catch on? The idea is backed by some of the biggest names in business to be the next big transport innovation – but can the dream of train capsules travelling in excess of 300 miles per hour through a pressurised tube really be realised, and would people actually want to travel on them? We hear the thoughts of Grace Galluci, the chief executive of the Great Lakes Hyperloop project, the plan for a Hyperloop between initially Cleveland and Chicago, and later Pittsburgh and Detroit too. Paul Lewis of the transport think tank ENO in Washington questions whether they’ll really be a feature of our towns and cities. And we go back in time with Julian Stray, senior curator at the Postal Museum in London, to hear about the technology which inspired Hyperloop – London’s pneumatic postal trains. Also in the programme, luxury brand LVMH is to buy Tiffany & Co in a $16bn tie-up. Fleur Roberts from the market research consultancy Euromonitor tells us what the brands are likely to get from the deal. Plus our regular workplace commentator Pilita Clarke considers the prospects for the idea of a zero emission workplace.
