US, Canada and Mexico Agree 'New NAFTA'

Global business news, with live guests and contributions from Asia and the USA.

There is a new NAFTA. Or at least there will be. The North America Free Trade Agreement has been replaced by the USMCA. Christophe Bondy was a top Canadian trade negotiator on NAFTA. Does he think that Trump's tough tariff tactic brought the NAFTA talks to a successful conclusion? We speak to Jeffrey Sachs, UN adviser and Professor of Sustainable Development at Columbia University. For him, it's time to redraw US Foreign Policy completely, focussing global cooperation, international law and aspirations for worldwide prosperity. More than 800 people are now confirmed dead following Friday's earthquake and resulting tsunami in Indonesia. The country's disaster response agency says none of the tsunami detector buoys were working before the island of Sulawesi was struck. So how useful are they? A question for Dr. Laura Kong, Director of the UNESCO IOC-NOAA International Tsunami Information Center. Plus, we consider the challenges companies face when operating across multiple time zones.

All this and more discussed with our two guests on opposite sides of the Pacific: Yoko Ishikura, Professor Emeritus, Hitotsubashi University - who's in Tokyo and Alison Van Diggelen, host of radio programme Fresh Dialogues who's in Silicon Valley, California.
