US and Philippines Brace for Catastrophic Storms

Global business news, with live guests and contributions from Asia and the USA.

On the show today: Hurricane Florence approaches the US East Coast, as officials warn of the deadly toll it could take. Meanwhile millions are bracing for Typhoon Mangkhut in the Philippines. We will hear from Rachel Lewis Hilburn from WHQR Radio in Wilmington, North Carolina, as well as the Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ’s own Howard Johnson in the Philippines.

The Reverend David Schilling is a senior programme director with the Interfaith Center on Corporate Responsibility (ICCR), a group of religious shareholder activists. He joins to explain how they managed to force Ruger & Co, one of America's biggest gun manufacturers, to compile their own report on gun violence in the US.

This week marks the tenth anniversary of the collapse of the Wall Street investment bank Lehman Brothers. We’ll be hearing from a number of people who were affected, and some who warn not to get too complacent about it happening again.

Latest estimates are that the UN’s goal on reducing poverty will not be reached by 2030. Marcus Manuel of the Overseas Development Institute joins to discuss.

And finally, the Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ’s Elizabeth Hotson has been travelling the east coast of the US, seeking out cafΓ© owners fighting back against free Wi-Fi.

All throughout the show we’ll be joined by Simon Littlewood, President at the Asia Now Consulting Group in Singapore and journalist, author, and consultant Diane Brady in New York.
