President Trump Ends Family Separation
Global business news, with live guests and contributions from Asia and the USA.
President Trump has signed an executive order that will mean migrant families who cross the border into the US will be detained together - ending the controversial practice of separating children from their parents. We get the view from both sides of the border, with Marketplace reporter Andy Uhler in Brownsville, Texas and Father Patrick Murphy of the Casa Del Migrante shelter in Tijuana, Mexico.
And then we travel toambia. The Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ’s Szu Ping Chan reports on how government spending is beginning to affect the lives of ordinary people, with many planned infrastructure projects scrapped in light of the country’s mounting debts. And Will Bain meets Brian Bwenbya AKA B Flow, one of Zambia’s biggest music stars, who counts former President Obama as a fan.
The European Union is set to apply its own tariffs on a range of US exports Friday, in retaliation for US tariffs on steel and aluminium. Iconic American products including blue Jeans, whiskey and farming goods are on the list. David Collins, Professor of International Economic Law at City University gives his view on the escalating tariffs.
And a shortage of carbon dioxide is leaving beer and soft drinks makers high and dry just as the World Cup and barbecue season get under way. We hear from the Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ’s Jonty Bloom and Sim Cotton of The London Beer Factory.
