Zimbabwe: On the Verge of a New Era?
What's next for Zimbabwe after the military has taken control of the country?
Now under house arrest, Robert Mugabe’s 37-year grip on power in Zimbabwe looks to be loosening after the military took control of the country. We hear from John Robertson, an independent economist based in Harare. As Venezuela struggles with financial turmoil, Moscow has signed a deal to restructure $3.15 billion of the country’s debt. The Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ’s South America Business Correspondent Daniel Gallas has more.
Rob Young is joined throughout the programme by Hindustan Times senior editor Madhavan Narayanan from Delhi, and feature writer for the Sunday Times, Leaf Arbuthnot in London. The Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ’s Will Grant also reports on barriers facing tourism in central Cuba, and U.S. economist Irwin Stelzer joins the show. And finally, Fintan O’Toole tells us why the fax machine was so important to poet Seamus Heaney.
