Robbie Dolan: The singing and winning jockey who defied the odds

Irish jockey Robbie Dolan took centre stage when he rode outsider Knight’s Choice to victory at the Melbourne Cup, but it’s not only in horse racing where Dolan has claimed the spotlight.

In 2022, Dolan reached the quarter-finals of the Australian version of the TV singing contest, The Voice, when he was part of the team of British singer and songwriter Rita Ora.

He shot to fame again in November 2024 when he won "the race that stops a nation" in a dramatic photo finish which saw Knight's Choice storm home to win by a nose in the final strides.

Dolan tells Sportshour’s Caroline Barker about what life has been like since the win and which stage will be his focus going forward.
