Bulkington's bright idea saves Christmas switch-on
A Christmas lights switch-on in Bulkington has been saved by a community fundraiser, after the local council withdrew some funding.
Volunteers raised about Β£5,000 to fund the event in the Warwickshire village.
The council said it had not cancelled the Christmas lights switch-on in Bulkington.
A spokesperson said: βThe lights have been provided and installed as usual for Β£22,500, which includes storage for most of the year and the erection and dismantling costs.β
The council said it had only withdrawn Β£2,000 of funding for staffing and other management costs.
The spokesperson added: βThis aspect is being handed over to the community, as is the case for other community events in our borough.β
