What does the poppy mean to you?
5 Live listeners have their say with Nicky Campbell.

Wrexham and Republic of Ireland winger James McClean says he’s come in for abuse for not wearing a shirt with a poppy:
β€œThe irony is that the poppy originally stood to honour those who fought for the right of freedom”.

The Royal British Legion say β€œpoppies are worn as a show of support for the Armed Forces community” and that β€œwearing a poppy is still a very personal choice, reflecting individual experiences and personal memories. It is never compulsory but is greatly appreciated by those who it is intended to support.”

The Peace Pledge Union says sales of the white poppy, an alternative anti-war symbol, have risen by as much as 27 per cent in schools and universities this year.
